12-year-old Holden James is beginning to wonder if the old leathered book he found while staying with his grandfather in Gripsholm Castle is real or make-believe. Every time he opens the book, he is whisked away to a time thousands of years in the past. There, he becomes prince Thane Katar, a young man now known as the Spitfire, who possesses the power of the great red dragon.

In this period, he finds himself south of his homeland of Katar, in the land of Thalia, with his closest friends, the expelled court historian, Gaedren Munns, and his daughter, Vaelia, in search of the orange dragon spirit. But his search is soon halted when he must face a man made of ash known as the Warbringer, a being recently arisen from the depths of a sleeping volcano with his living stone guardian, the Ashen Warrior.

Making matters worse, Spitfire must help save Queen Thalia from her arranged marriage to the evil King Sadaria, who controls the spirit of the yellow dragon, and has threatened to release an ophilis, an ancient acid-spitting serpent upon the lands of Thalia if the marriage is stopped.

Can Spitfire thwart the efforts of the Warbringer and his Ashen Warrior before their havoc erupts the sleeping volcano? Will the ophilis be released upon the lands of Thalia? Will Spitfire ever discover the resting place of the orange dragon spirit to claim it as his own? The answer lies within these pages.
